BIENALSUR 2021

The 3rd edition of BIENALSUR, a project conceived and developed at UNTREF (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero) for the world, was held from July to December 2021 in more than 120 venues in 50 cities of 24 countries with the participation of over 400 artists. BIENALSUR is a multipolar space for contemporary art that operates as a network of associative collaboration between museums, cultural centres, and universities from all over the world. It began in the South of the South as an exercise in indiscipline with the aim to rethink established practices, and to contribute to the emergence of new rationales for artistic and social circulation in a two-fold local and global dimension. As a horizontal network, BIENALSUR links artists, curators, and diverse social groups from different backgrounds and trajectories on an equal footing, thus building new circuits of interaction only possible within the framework of this project. With an unprecedented modality, BIENALSUR explores the international art scene through an open and free call which results in the curatorial axes of each edition and the selection of works and curatorial projects. In addition, artists and works from collections of different origins are invited to engage in a dialogue with the selected proposals.
